The Full Story

As our name suggests, we have no borders. Since our inception our primary focus has been Ukraine, where war has brought immense loss and suffering. The need remains great as our friends continue their fight for freedom.

ColliesWithoutBorders reflects with both pride and humility on years of tireless work—crossing borders, supporting shelters, and responding in conflict zones. We’ve stayed true to our mission: to help, rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome collies in need. Though we've faced challenges, we’ve grown stronger together—especially through our continued efforts in response to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

We are incredibly proud of and grateful for our growing network of dedicated volunteers and partner organizations. Their support has made possible essential medical care, behavioral help, and foster or forever placements.

In 2024, we launched our Emergency Medical Fund. This fund is opened for donations when dogs require urgent veterinary care, often including life-saving surgeries and treatment for those who have been severely neglected or abused. It also helps collie families cover the costs of chronic illness, including medications necessary for long-term recovery and care.

Thanks to your donations, we continue to provide monthly care for nearly 200 Ukrainian collies, as well as assist with transportation, medical needs, and urgent rescues here in the U.S.

Rescue Mission

When Viktoria’s home was destroyed after four years of living under relentless shelling, she still refused to leave—because leaving meant abandoning the animals who relied on her. In a region already overwhelmed and under constant danger, her choice was an act of quiet courage and love.

Recognizing both the urgency and the humanity of her situation, CWB director, Flora Scheck, brought together a network of Ukrainian rescuers, drivers, and volunteers within 48 hours. Despite the village being under Russian control and the risks involved, we moved quickly and carefully, guided by trust, compassion, and a shared determination to not leave anyone behind.

Together, we were able to evacuate Viktoria and 40 animals—including 16 collies—from immediate danger. But the mission didn’t end there. After everything she had lost, it was just as important to help her begin again. We secured a safe home where she and her animals could stay together—not just to survive, but to heal.

This effort was rooted not only in coordination and execution, but in empathy, resilience, and the belief that even in the hardest moments, care and connection can carry people forward.

Working with Rescue Groups

ColliesWithoutBorders is always ready to help collies in need, wherever they are in the world. We maintain strong partnerships with rescue organizations both in the United States and internationally. Over the years as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we have stepped in to support numerous rescue groups across the U.S., assisting during natural disasters, responding to hoarding situations, and providing financial aid for emergency veterinary care.

We also encourage you to get involved with your local rescue organizations. Shelters are often at capacity, and the need for support is significant. Fostering a dog in need can make a meaningful difference—and from personal experience, it is incredibly rewarding.

Below are a few stories highlighting our work with rescue groups across the United States and abroad.

CWB answered the call for support when we heard about Soldier. Another case of unbelievable neglect. He was abandoned at a dog park near a rescue in South Carolina. He suffered from mange and had a large tumor on his head.

Thanks to our donor's generosity, CWB was able send financial support for Soldier's surgery and veterinary care. We continued to support his recovery and he did great. Look at the transformation!

We are happy to report that Solider has been adopted and is living his best life. He even has his own Facebook page!

What love can do!

Emmett was one of the worst cases of abuse and neglect we have ever seen. CWB was happy to be involved in his recovery.

Emmett was very sick when he was taken into rescue. He was suffering from severe malnutrition and had a horrible case of mange among other ailments.

With help from CWB donors, Emmett was returned to much better health but would always require a special person to care for him. The director of his rescue group decided to keep him.

Sadly Emmett crossed the Rainbow Bridge last year. We take solace in knowing that his last years of life he knew love and kindness. He will always live in our hearts.

ColliesWithoutBorders shares the inspiring journey of two collies in Ukraine, highlighting their resilience and the love they bring to communities in need. Join us in making a difference.

Emma & Anita were reported to us after being discovered in an overcrowded animal shelter in Ukraine. When attempting to get them to foster homes in the U.K. the war was escalating and everything became extremely complicated and expensive.

One of our Ukrainian families stepped up to open their home to the two collies in need. They are now loved and cared for. We love a happy ending!

The Amazing Journey of Hanya & Bella

Hanya & Bella shortly after they arrived in the U.K.

On October 20th 2024 we received heartbreaking news that a collie owner had been murdered by her abusive husband. He tossed the 4 collies out to fend for themselves. One of our members in Ukraine traveled 700km to search for the collies. She managed to find them and brought them back to her home for some much needed food, love and veterinary care. Sadly the oldest, 10 years old did not survive the tragedy. One found a new home in Ukraine. The two remaining, Hanya & Bella, needed to be placed in safe foster care. As conditions in Ukraine continue to worsen, it was thought that we could try to get them to safety in the UK with our colleague willing to foster them. We called on our friends for donations to help with the cost of vet checks, paperwork and transport .. all very expensive. Once everything was in place the girls left Ukraine on December 4th and arrived in their foster home in the UK December 7th. Within a few weeks, Hanya found her forever home. While Bella continued to wait for an adopter, her foster family fell in love with her. It was wonderful  CWB "foster fail".
