Our 2026 design by Artist Kathryn George . To learn more about Kathryn read below.
It was an honor and a pleasure to create this design to help collies and their people in Ukraine. Growing up, I was told that we were of Russian/Polish descent, but DNA analysis a few years ago corrected that to Ukrainian/Polish. My grandmother teaching me the art of pysanky finally made sense!
My childhood was also filled with reading the books of Albert Payson Terhune, watching Lassie on tv, and drawing collies, instilling in me a lifelong love of the breed.
Fast forward to adulthood. My BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design allowed me to apply my talents to help collies and Sunnybank, Albert Payson Terhune’s former estate which is today a park for all to enjoy. For over twenty years, I have created t-shirts and other premiums for the Collie Health Foundation’s Gathering at Sunnybank, in addition to serving as the Archivist for the Terhune Sunnybank Memorial (TSM), a volunteer group dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Sunnybank. Along the way came several books and several Dog Writers Association Maxwell Awards. And, since 2006, I’ve enjoyed being a major part of TSM’s newsletter about all things Terhune and Sunnybank, The Lookout.
None of this would have been possible without the encouragement and support of my wonderful family - husband Lou, son Chrys, and daughter-in-law Sofi … although our latest addition, a demanding six-month-old Keeshond, Skye, made the creation of this shirt a challenge to be sure!
